Despatchers Parachute Harness Assy

The Despatchers Parachute & Harness Assembly is a lightweight back type assembly designed to provide in-flight security for air despatchers, parachute jump instructors and aircrew operating by open aircraft doors and ramps during routine operations. The assembly incorporates a facility to cut away the tail unit and make a parachute descent in the case of an emergency.

Despatchers Parachute Harness Assy

The assembly consists of a back type parachute, a tail unit with a 3-ring release unit capable of being waist or shoulder mounted, an adjustable anchorage strap and triple action karabiner for connection to a strong point. The primary operation of the system is by ripcord pull, which is exposed only when the tail unit has been cut-away.

The assembly comprises a 5.5m Aeroconical canopy with 20 block constructed gores and 20 rigging lines. Three net panels located at the rear of the canopy provide drive and turn. Steering control is via toggles located on each of the rear risers. The canopy is fitted with water pockets to prevent dragging in the event of a water landing.

The three point closure harness is of a split saddle design for maximum comfort and flexibility. Ajustment facilities make it suitable for all sizes of user. The harness is fitted with a waist belt to improve security when using the tail unit in the waist position. The pack is conventional back type with a slim profile and is manufactured from flame retardant PU coated nylon (Cordura). Tabs fitted to the pilot parachute and the kicker plate ensure that the pilot parachute cannot move position whilst in service.
